Claire Flannery-Livingstone, 14, a member of the Tomaree Squash Club based at Shoal Bay, is ranked number two in the state for her age group.
"Last year in Perth I competed in the under 15 age group and I finished 16th from 28 girls. This year I will be competing in the same age group, so I am hoping for a top 10 finish," the Tomaree High student said.
"My coaches [Matt Karwalski and Melody Francis] have picked up the intensity in my training and I am doing more in the areas of strength, cardio and nutrition."
Flannery-Livingstone, sponsored by BML Oliver Squash, said she enjoys the fitness aspect of the sport and until recently had treated it as more of a hobby.
To qualify for the nationals, Flannery-Livingstone had to compete in a number of tournaments across NSW in towns such as Parkes and Bathurst, as well as Sydney.
Her current training routine includes two games a week at the Shoal Bay courts and one night at Cardiff.
The championships will run from September 24 to October 5.
