Now Salamander Bay Shopping Centre is giving residents the opportunity to thank SES personnel by raising money for much-needed equipment and training aids.
Centre manager Dushani Gamage said that SES volunteers had given up their time to help residents in a time of need and it was now time for the community to show their appreciation.
"Each year the centre conducts an annual fundraiser to support a local charity or community group," Ms Gamage said. "This year we hope to raise a similar amount for the Tomaree SES unit as a thank-you."
The "I Love Saying Thank You" campaign will launch in-centre on Saturday, August 8, in conjunction with an SES information day complete with volunteers in uniform, a display of the resources and equipment and information on how to prepare for future storms.
"From August 8 to 22 customers will be invited to write their message of thanks on a love heart and tie it to the stands in the support hubs located throughout the centre," said marketing co-ordinator Abby Richards. "The centre will donate $1 for each heart to the SES. Customers can also donate via the donation tins and other fundraisers throughout the two weeks."
Tomaree SES member Bob Parrish said that it was a wonderful gesture and hoped people would support the fundraiser to help pay for new equipment.
