The awards were developed to recognise publicly the efforts of paid and unpaid carers and foster carers at work across Australia.
There are four categories under which a carer can be nominated; young carers (aged 26 and under), foster and kinship carer, family carers (unpaid and caring for a family member or friend), and Caring in the Country - an award for unpaid carers in rural and remote locations.
There are over 2.7 million unpaid carers in Australia providing essential support to someone in need.
I encourage anyone in Port Stephens who knows of a carer supporting someone in need to nominate them for one of the awards listed above.
Nominations close on September 6, and can be made by going to the National Carer Awards website carerawards.com.au.
