Dr Peter Romero, a GP at Shoal Bay Medical Centre with nearly 30 years' experience practising medicine, is bringing CHIP (Complete Health Improvement Program) to Port Stephens with his registered nurse wife, Sue.
"I have been frustrated that over 70 per cent of the disease that I see is preventable by simple lifestyle changes," Dr Romero said.
"Not only is disease robbing years off our lives, it is robbing us of vitality and energy, and creating disability, functional decline [e.g. blindness], pain and costing us in expensive healthcare.
"The saying that lifestyle diseases take years from our life and life from our years is very evident today."
Dr Romero said he was involved in running a pilot CHIP program two years ago and decided at the time to make some significant personal changes to his own lifestyle.
"I lost seven kilograms in weight and have noticed an increase in my energy levels, better emotional wellbeing and generally feeling a lot younger."
The CHIP program will run for nine weeks starting on October 13.
The Romeros will hold two free information sessions at the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Salamander Bay on September 29 and October 6.
Bookings can be made by contacting Dr Romero on 0417 297 634.
