The Port's sand dunes, beach camel rides, views, and swimming with dolphin experiences have been included in NSW's 100 Things To Do Before You Die list.
The list was compiled by tour and attractions provider Experience Oz.
Compiled from years worth of customer feedback, staff input and database polling, the bucket list of activities covers experiences in the larger urban centres as well as regional NSW.
The Stockton Sand Dunes was listed due to being "one of the Port Stephens region's most obvious and distinctive features"; camel rides for witnessing "the quirky character of these interesting creatures while also soaking in excellent views"; and swimming with dolphins due to "the Great Lakes Marine Park serving as a haven for these intelligent and playful creatures".
Soaking in the view atop Gan Gan Lookout, Nelson Bay was also listed.
Adam Wiltshire, the manager of Dolphin Swim Australia, based in Nelson Bay, said the business was "pretty stoked" to have been included in the list but was not all that surprised.
"Swimming with dolphins is on everyone's to do list," Mr Wiltshire said.
"People who come out with us are so excited about swimming with dolphins but what they don't expect is the dolphins being so excited to see them, too."
DSA allows five people at a time to be slowly dragged by catamaran through the water, giving people the experience of swimming with a pod of wild dolphins.
This is not done anywhere else in the world, Mr Wiltshire said.
