During the summer break the association, based in Raymond Terrace, hosted Netball NSW’s school holiday program, which attracted 12 young girls to the sport.
“Providing development opportunities for boys and girls who enjoy their netball is what we are all about,” said association president Jodi Cassar.
On the January 30-31 weekend the association hosted Susan Pettitt and Abbey McCulloch, players from the ANZ Championship netball team the NSW Swifts.
“We had more than 50 young excited players who learnt many great training drills from these emerging players,” Cassar said.
“Players came from across Port Stephens, Maitland and Newcastle to participate in the two-hour SP Netball Clinic.”
Cassar said the clinic was just a taste of exciting things ahead for Port Stephens netball in 2016.
The association is set to host to the Hunter State League Finals on April 3 and the Nations of Origin Tournament on the July 12-13 weekend.
“These are two great events that Netball NSW has asked Port Stephens Netball to host and just goes to show how strong the game of cetball is in our community,” Cassar said.
“Netball is certainly strong and alive in Port Stephens,.
“This year our association has 10 teams representing Port Stephens with our masters playing state at netball central [Homebush] in May, three teams playing in state championships [in Newcastle] in June, another four teams playing at state age championships [in Wollongong] in July and two under 11 years development squads that will attend a number of carnivals around the Hunter this year.
“This is our strongest number of teams in years, which is a credit to our executive and representative committee and of course our players and their families”.
Whilst our playing season is still a few months away, clubs are now taking registrations for the 2016 season.
