The council had voted to publicly display a revised plan of management on February 2 that would pave the way for partial development of the park for a men’s shed and seniors housing.
The matter returned to the council this week when Cr Peter Kafer lodged a rescission motion based on the need for an archaeological study.
Cr Geoff Dingle seized on an advertisement in the Examiner that appeared after the extraordinary meeting on February 2 but lodged prior to the meeting’s outcome.
The council’s general manager Wayne Wallis defended the advertisement as a necessary step due to advertising deadlines.
Cr John Nell was also in favour of the rescission.
“We’re not helping ourselves by mixing up the location of the men’s shed with Boomerang Park,” he said.
“It’s a shed at the end of the day and it’s always going to look like a shed.
The plan will be exhibited for 42 days before it comes back to the council for adoption.
