The group, affectionately known as TAG, are eyeing a new gallery space in Lemon Tree Passage and the pending shift means more room for it to grow.
“There’s every likelihood the Lemon Tree Passage Rural Fire Station will become our new home,” TAG president Liz Meadley said.
“This means we’re in need of increasing our membership.”
The arts group was started in 2002. In the past, membership has been limited to artisans from the Tilligerry Peninsula.
But with the intended move to Lemon Tree Passage, TAG is widening its membership area and not limiting it to just artists.
“We are looking for people in the Tilligerry area or further afield that are artists or just want something to do,” Ms Meadley said.
“We need volunteers to work in our gallery.”
The TAG Gallery, located in the Kooindah Centre at Tanilba Bay, is where members show their work.
The arts group has 80 members and 33 exhibiting artists at the moment. Membership is $15 per year. Exhibiting artists are required to volunteer two-and-a-half days at the TAG Gallery.
However, of the 33 exhibitors there a number of those who are unable to volunteer at the gallery.
“We rely on about 15 people to do the voluntary stuff at the gallery,” Ms Meadley said. “We need a lot more volunteers. We’re really at a point where it is the same people doing a number of duties and really going beyond the volunteer requirements.”
With the impending move to a much larger space, and plans to run workshops, more volunteers will be needed to man the gallery and complete the tasks required to keep the group running.
While volunteering time may sound daunting, Ms Meadley said it was only a few hours a week and there were plenty of social benefits that came from it.
“New volunteers will be part of an exciting new venture,” she said. “We’re very excited about the anticipated move. The new gallery will offer a great deal more space and provide us the opportunity to run workshops on site.”
