THE woman whose body was found by police in water at Nelson Bay on Monday morning has been identified.
A NSW Police Force media spokeswoman said on Tuesday that the woman, found by Nelson Bay Water Police at Little Beach on March 21, had been identified. Her name has not been released.
About 11.15am police were called to the beach after a vessel reported a body in the water. A post-mortem examination will be carried out this week and cause of death determined. Police are not treating the woman’s death as suspicious.
The woman was described as being of Caucasian appearance, possibly aged in her late 30s or early 40s, about 170 centimetres tall, with a slim build and short dyed blonde hair. Police said the woman had body piercings and a number of distinctive tattoos.
A report is being prepared for the coroner.
EARLIER Monday:
POLICE are appealing for public assistance in identifying a woman whose body was located in water at Nelson Bay on Monday morning.
About 11.15am police were called after a vessel reported a body in the water off Little Beach at Nelson Bay.
Officers from Marine Area Command responded and retrieved the body of a woman from the water.
A post-mortem examination will be carried out this week, a police statement said.
The woman had not been identified on Monday afternoon.
Her cause of death is yet to be determined.
The woman is described as being of Caucasian appearance, possibly aged in her late 30s or early 40s, about 170 centimetres tall, with a slim build and short dyed blonde hair.
Police said the woman had body piercings and a number of distinctive tattoos.
She was wearing a blue crochet top, with a bikini top underneath, and green denim ‘Rusty’ cut-off shorts at the time of her death.

A report will be prepared for the information of the coroner.
