Inside the Port, huge mulloway to 30kg are feasting on smaller bait fish which shower across the surface from Shoal Bay to Soldiers Point and up into the western harbour. This has been a sensational longfin tuna season with crackers to 25kg rocketing through the shallows and crashing the surface when feeding. Jack Hammond recently wrestled huge mulloway and longfin in Salamander Bay.
Outside the heads the mullet have arrived. The huge schools moved onto Stockton before moving north to Fingal where the commercial fishermen have been working overtime along the length of the beach and across the Fingal Spit. Proving to be an occupational hazard are the increasing number of sharks that accompany the schooling fish and charge into the nets. They are mainly school sharks and bronze whalers, however the fishing crews keep an eye out for great whites. A tip for swimmers - get out of the water when the fishermen are working.
