Fingal Bay Rugby League Club suffered their first loss of the season, going down to a slick Dudley outfit 17-10 at Dudley last saturday. The Bmboras failure to complete their sets gifted Dudley plenty of ball and wrong options in attack compounded the problem. Tough front rower Beau Earl lead from the front with a strong performance; backrower Jarrod Diemar worked hard, while five-eighth Dean Morrison tried to spark attacking raids.
Two Nelson Bay athletes turned in excellent performances at the Australian Ironman championships held at Port Macquarie last weekend. The gruelling course consists of a 3.8km swim, a 180km bike ride, and a 42km run. Nelson Bay school teacher Pat Hay came second in the 30-34 age group and 24th overall in a field of 1440 athletes, qualifying for the World Ironman titles to be held in Hawaii in October. Peter Yap from Corlette finished 28th overall and former Bay swim coach Scott Hobson finished third in the half marathon.
