Saturday’s home game at Dick Burwell Oval is doubling as the club’s Pink Sports Day. The day is run by Breast Cancer Network Australia.
Funds raised through the sale of pink socks, barbecues, raffles and other treats, including the Mother’s Day packs the AFL club plan to sell on Saturday, goes back to the network to help those living with breast cancer.
“Everyone has been affected, touched by or known someone with breast cancer,” Marlins club secretary Kylie Clayden said.
“I think everyone wants to help and do what they can, but not everyone has a lot of money to donate. Coming down and buying a couple of little things will still go a long way to helping someone with cancer.”
Clayden said that there would be merchandise, lollies and cakes – all pink – available to buy at Saturday’s games.
Last year more than 1200 clubs across Australia, including the Marlins, took part in a Pink Sports Day to raise funds for the network.
This year the network hopes to raise $500,000 through the initiative.
Spectators are encouraged to wear pink to Saturday’s games.
The Marlins are at home to Warners Bay in all three matches.
The women’s match will start at 10.30am.
Premier kick off at 2pm.
