Failed Fern Bay robbery attempt

POLICE are appealing for information after a man attempted to rob two women in Fern Bay on Sunday, armed with a flaming aerosol can. The women were talking outside an Ironbark Street home about 10pm on May 22 when they saw two cars drive past, police said. One, a white Toyota Camry, had a piece of plastic covering a broken window. A short time after the cars passed a man described as Caucasian with short dark hair, aged in his mid-20s and wearing dark tracksuit pants and a grey hooded jumper ran up to the women holding an aerosol can and a lighter. He lit a flame from the aerosol can and demanded they hand over the handbags. One of the women ran inside the house and the man ran away empty handed. The Camry, with four men inside, was seen leaving the street shortly after. Anyone with information can phone Crime Stoppers on 1300 333 000.
