The council’s world-beating Sand Dune Adventures tourism initiative interested the Tasmanian senator who was on the campaign trail with Liberal candidate for Paterson Karen Howard.
“Here’s a fantastic example of a community that’s used its own initiative build success and I’m always looking for stories like this,” Mr Colbeck said.
“The fact these guys are more than happy to talk to other land councils about their success is great.”
The ministerial cheque book remained holstered on this occasion. When asked if there might be a tourism related funding announcement for the region he said: “Probably not Port Stephens specifically.
“But there may be some broader policies tourism operators can plug into.”
The Turnbull government has identified tourism as one of its “super growth industries” with 4.1 per cent annual expansion expected for 10 years.
