The Terrace parkrun is a completely free weekly event, which means it’s not financially exclusive. It may be titled parkrun, but could also be considered a park-walk; one’s fitness isn’t a prerequisite for participating.
Many of the individuals who come along to parkrun walk the course at first, but soon find themselves wanting to improve their time and so start running the full 5km.
The success of the Terrace parkrun is that it is for anyone, you just need to register once and print off your barcode.
The location of the Terrace parkrun aids in its success as it is in a beautiful part of town along the river, with many participants commenting that it was a spot they rarely went to previously. The course is dynamic, with its differing surfaces and inclines, making it an interesting course to do, but not difficult or restrictive to first-timers.
Event Director Brenton Pobjie is very active on social media keeping both local and out-of-town ‘parkrunners’ up-to-date with the going-on of the Terrace parkrun.
Each week photos from the event are posted. This helps to encourage individuals, further bolstering the strong sense of community around the Terrace parkrun, thus aiding in the success of the event.
The local support from businesses like Mass Nutrition, Cups and Saucers, The Terrace Physio Plus, and L.J Hooker, has enabled the Terrace parkrun to go from concept to reality.
Cups And Saucers provision of a free cup of coffee to our volunteers, and extra tables to sit at, has given a spot for the parkrun community to develop away from running and walking.
When you combine the spirit of the volunteers with the support from business and local government, it has all the ingredients necessary for success. Essentially, it is the people who show up at 8am every Saturday at Riversside Park to run and volunteer who make the Terrace parkrun successful.
The Terrace parkrun is about getting out and moving, in a fun and light-hearted environment. It has become a very supportive atmosphere with individuals giving each high fives, and words of encouragement.
It’s the most enjoyable 5km you will do. The inclusive and encouraging attitudes of those that come along have allowed Terrace parkrun to reach its six-month milestone successfully.
