Port Stephens Council bestowed this region’s highest honour on the Shoal Bay nonagenarian on Tuesday night. It acknowledges decades of community service largely through his work as one of the area’s most recognised vegetable farmers.
Born in Bobs Farm, Mr Holliday worked the family acreage aged seven, and was a regular passenger on the punt to the Steel Street markets. He also ran the old rose farm on Marsh Road. He became a prominent member of the vegetable industry, an advocate for the veterans and the aged, and has mentored thousands of students in his career at Tocal Agricultural College.
“It gives me a lot of pleasure to see Eric Holliday receive this... he has been recognised for his significant contribution to Port Stephens,” mayor Bruce MacKenzie said.
