The money will buy pavers so that new pathways can be installed.
The gardens raised the issue with the Parliamentary Secretary for the Hunter Scot MacDonald last month.
He returned on Friday to deliver the good news with Minister for Disability Services John Ajaka.
“I was pleased to be able to represent the Hunter Region Botanic Gardens’ Board’s request to Minister Ajaka, and I wish to thank him for making these funds available,” Mr MacDonald said.
“The Gardens have a range of displays for recreational and educational purposes, and it is important that these displays are accessible to everyone in our community.”
The ‘environmental refuge’ runs on the hard work of staff and tireless volunteers who will construct the new paths.
“The NSW Government is committed to making NSW the State of Inclusion,” Mr Ajaka said. “Everyone, regardless of their age, race or disability, deserves to enjoy everything NSW has to offer.”
The gardens board gratefully accepted the cheque.
