“I’m constantly touring,” the comedian said.
“I love it; I love being on stage.
“I love the thrill of it. It gets in your blood and becomes addictive, and I’ve been addicted for a long time.”
Hughes could arguably be one of Australia’s most well-known comedians.
His relaxed persona, sharp-witted rebuttals, hilarious stories of the frustrations of everyday life, the roller-coaster of parenthood, and what it means to be “Hughesy”, has made him a household name and earned him many fans during the years.
Hughes last performed in Nelson Bay in 2014.
Speaking with the Examiner this week, Hughes said he “loved” touring to the area.
“It’s a beautiful part of the world,” he said.
“I love visiting and the people are great. That whole coastline is beautiful.”
What can the Nelson Bay audience expect when he brings Sweet to Wests Diggers in September?
Lots of laughs, apparently.
“Most of my shows are based on my life, where I’m at in life, and just jokes about the trials and tribulations of raising three children and dealing with life as a minor celebrity,” he said.
And where did Sweet come from?
“I say sweet a lot,” Hughes said.
“Whenever I get text messages I usually reply back with ‘sweet’.”
Hughes will stop at Wests Nelson Bay Diggers on September 9.
Tickets, available from westsnewcastle.com.au or calling 4981 1344, to see the show cost $40.
The Examiner has one double pass to give away to the Nelson Bay show, which starts at 8pm.
To win, send your name and daytime contact details in an email titled ‘Dave’ to ewatts@fairfaxmedia.com.au.
The winner will be contacted by 5pm on September 7.
