For this very reason I support aquaculture that does not impact on the environment.
We cannot continue to have a total reliance on fish caught in the wild to fill our plates.
It appears that many in this community share my opinion. There has been little opposition to the kingfish farm that is close to being established in 40 metres of water between Cabbage Tree and Broughton Islands.
The only concern that I have heard expressed is the actual location of the farm. Is it too close to Broughton and will the kingfish waste alter the current balance?
Will the farm intrude on the natural whale and dolphin ocean highway and the businesses that rely on both whales and dolphins? Will the farm be a danger to those motoring from the port to Broughton?
Alternative sites have been suggested however it seems that all the decisions have been made at state level and I would be surprised if any changes are made at the 11th hour. Meetings are being conducted this week to confront any major concerns. As a community we all have an investment in the kingfish farm and must closely monitor its progress.
