Just ask future Shoal Bay champion little Ben Lennon who spent an hour on Shoal Bay jetty with his dad and returned home with a catch of tarwhine, bream, squire a few toads and one thumping leatherjacket. The Mayor of Stockton Beach, Schoie, has been catching cracker bream, whiting and the occasional mulloway. The beach has come alive since the return of pipis which I am told are in healthy numbers.
NSW Fisheries must be congratulated for taking control of the once dwindling pipi population and putting in place regulations which will result a more sustainable future for the resource. Inside the Port Johnny Lordanic continues to nail quality bream from the Nelson Bay breakwall. A lifetime fisherman John knows every fish in the Port by their first name. Outside the heads Laurie Chadder bagged snapper to 6.5kg in “a secret spot”; off Broughton Island.
