The award-winning indie four-piece with play the University of Newcastle’s Bar On The Hill on October 22.
In January The Jezabels announced the cancellation of their national tour in support of their third album SYNTHIA due to Shannon’s treatment for ovarian cancer.
Newcastle was not initially included on the five-date tour scheduled for February and March.
Since the release of their debut album Prisoner in 2011, which earned them the Australian Music Prize, The Jezabels has become one of the country’s leading bands through subsequent albums The Brink (2013) and SYNTHIA (2016).
Shannon was first diagnosed with cancer in 2013 during the making of The Brink.
She initially could continue band commitments between treatments, but medical advice in January convinced her to take a break from the road while she concentrated on her health.
In a statement at the time, Shannon said: “Up until now, I have preferred to not let this diagnosis get in the way of getting on with life.
“I feel a deep frustration at this new roadblock, as I now have to take a step back and undergo treatment.
“The band means so much to me, and cancelling the tour has been a very sad decision. I am hopeful that in the near future we will be back on the road again playing music we love.
“This album means so much to us, and we were so looking forward to sharing it live with everyone.”
Joining The Jezabels on the road will be Melbourne’s Ali Barter, who has scored Triple J hits with Far Away and Hypercolour.
The classically trained singer-songwriter has played shows with acts such as The Rubens, The War On Drugs, Cloud Control and Phosphorescent.
She has also earned a slot on 2016’s St Jerome’s Laneway Festival.
Tickets to see The Jezabels, available from OzTix, cost $49.
