The gala day, in its 10th year, was held at Bill Strong Oval in Nelson Bay on September 16.
Teams were made up of years 5 and 6 students from primary schools on the Tomaree Peninsula.
The event is organised by the Nelson Bay Junior Rugby Union Club.
“This is a great opportunity to promote and develop rugby union within the local community and get the students involved in the game building friendships and encourage friendly rivalry,” club secretary Dion Cooper said.
Boat Harbour construction business J & J Killalea Constructions has sponsored the event since its inception in 2006 and provides a prize of $1000 to the winning school.
This year, Shoal Bay Public School won.
St Michael’s Primary School, based at Nelson Bay, came second.
Each team played six games throughout the day.
The level of rugby on the day was played at a high standard from students so young.
Shoal Bay presented a strong team and were undefeated on the day.
Captain Kai Vincent led the team to victory.
Players’ player of the team went to winger Jayden Wilcox-Huxtable who in one game scored a comfortable hat trick.
