THE Port Stephens Community Arts Centre’s 35th anniversary luncheon held on September 14 was a resounding success with 70 members and friends attending.
The room looked great, the food was wonderful and the noise and laughter of friends enjoying themselves was electrifying.
Port Stephens councillor John Nell, a keen supporter of the arts, as well as Patty Blowes, Jo Menere, Gordon Thwaithe, June Benett, Gwen Firkin, Dawn Hughes, Betty O’Hara and Emily Hunter being some of the older members attended the luncheon along with many others.
Margaret Freeman gave an entertaining overview of the history associated with the centre’s buildings, how important the site has been to the community over the years and the responsibility members feel to keep the facility evolving for all the community to enjoy.
The open days were well attended by the public when members demonstrated activities one can do at the arts centre.
It’s a great place for all to enjoy.

St Philip’s Christian College
THIS year St Philip’s Christian College at Salamander Bay entered teams into the Robocup competition.
The regional competition was held at University of Newcastle in August.
The state and national events were held at the University of NSW earlier in September.
At regionals, the school’s Noah Davis placed first in open rescue and Riley Davis placed second in the same division.
A dance team consisting of Zac Limana, Roy Buckhurst and Nicholas Mirosevich came second in dance.
A soccer team consisting of Morton Jennings, Jack Bowen and Stjepan Sostarko came first in open soccer and second in light weight soccer.
Another soccer team consisting of Noah Davis, Tyler Georgiadis, Samuel Lannigan and Joshua Freeman came second in open soccer and fourth in light weight soccer.
The school won the overall soccer championship trophy.
All of the school’s regional teams entered the state competition.
Davis again placed first in open rescue.
The dance team also placed first.
Although the dance team did not win at the national level, they believe they were crowd favourites as they had the crowd clapping, singing and cheering when they were on the stage.
Davis placed second in the open rescue.
