Work will mostly be carried out at night between 6pm and 6am. For safety reasons some work, like safety barrier installation, will still be done during 7am and 5pm.
Work is expected to cost $1.1 million and last 12 weeks. A temporary 40 kmh speed zone and traffic control will be in place.
Parliamentary Secretary for the Hunter, Scot MacDonald, said the motorists will soon benefit from improvements.
“Work also includes minor drainage improvements and the installation of roadside safety barriers to prevent motorists veering from the road and to improve road safety,” Mr MacDonald said.
“Before work starts some tree and vegetation removal was carried out to allow for the shoulder widening and to remove any potential roadside hazards.”
Work commenced on October 10 and is expected to be completed in 12 weeks, weather permitting.
Port Stephens Council will carry out the work on behalf of Roads and Maritime Services.
