The 15-year-old is a consistent competitor in the bench rest category.
Parsons has already scored a gold medal in the under 18s at South Australia making him a national junior champion.
Last year he even came third in the NSW open division, at the Sporting Shooter’s Silverdale range, in western Sydney. Only the country’s best beat him.
He’ll not only be up against Australia’s best but New Zealand’s too, on November 5 and 6.
“I’m quite excited - I’m confident about my chances,” he said.
“I do quite well most of the time. I’ve got the best of equipment and I’ve had lots of practice too.”
In bench rest competitors generally have seven minutes to fire five shots at 100 and 200 yards. The tightest grouping wins.
“The challenge is what I enjoy most and the results after all of the effort,” he said.
Parsons followed his dad, Darren into the sport.
They competed side-by-side in the state open last year when the apprentice became the master.
“He gave me a flogging with my gun,” Darren said.
“It just goes to show, you can have the best equipment but it takes skill and Donny is a natural.”
