The Try-A-Tri event is designed for first timers or those who might not have tried their hand for a while.
“It’s basically for anyone with no triathlon experience,” club president Dean Morrison said.
“If they try it and like it, they’re always welcome to come again.”
The club describes it as a “fun-sized” event at the boat ramp opposite Soldiers Point Bowling Club.
It involves a 250 metre swim with supervision from Birubi Point Surf Life Saving volunteers, an 11 kilometre cycle on flat ground and a 3km run.
And it’s only $10 to take part.
Mr Morrison said the club had a reputation for being friendly and accommodating of all abilities.
“Triathlon is whatever you want it to be,” he said.
“You can race the clock, your mates or just enjoy the sense of accomplishment.
“The beauty of triathlon is that it caters to everyone.”
Experienced triathletes will be on hand to answer questions.
Juniors will have an escort for the bicycle leg for guidance and support.
The club kicked off its regular season in September.
The club has 100-plus members from as far away as Sydney.
About 70 people compete at each race on average.
They youngest competitor is eight and the oldest is 75.
“It’s a really friendly club,” Mr Morrison said.
“No one takes it too seriously.”
Try-A-Tri event begins 7am on Saturday, December 10.
Registrations for the event are open at www.tomareetriclub.org.au.
Race four in the regular season takes place on the Sunday.
The December 12 event is the annual Dave Swan Memorial.
A novelty splash and dash for cash will be held after the race.
Participants will nominate their time. Whoever is closest wins.
Last year the proceeds from the memorial event were donated to the Tomaree Breast Cancer Support Group.
Morrison is part of a hardworking committee behind the events.
“You see people come out and really enjoy themselves so its worthwhile – they’ll tell you they enjoyed it,” he said.
