Since it first opened its door to the region on December 10, 1986, with just 8 independent retailers, the shopping Centre has undergone 3 major renovations and has grown to house over 80 specialty retail stores today.
Ralph Kaiko, proprietor of Amcal and one of the first store operators in the Centre when it opened, is proud to be part of the 30th birthday celebrations that will take place from Thursday December 8 to Saturday December 10.
Customers and visitors to the region are invited to join the Centre in it’s 30th birthday celebrations and take advantage of some of the promotions on offer.
Many of the Centre’s retailers will be offering sales across three days to coincide with the birthday celebrations.
There is also expected to be some family entertainment with face-painting for the kids and some exclusive giveaways for some lucky visitors on the day.
SpecSavers will be offering 30% off lenses across the 3 day sale and has a number of in-store promotions planned along with giveaways for customers.
Ralph and fellow proprietor of SpecSavers, Greg O’Donnell (pictured) are the only two original retailers still operating in the Centre today and have taken the reigns to drive the birthday celebrations.
“We are looking forward to seeing many of our customers come along to the Centre and enjoy a slice of cake with us to mark the last 30 years here,” said Mr Kaiko.
During the 30 years since Greg O’Donnell and Ralph Kaiko have been trading at the Centre, the building has completely transformed.
“The change during the last thirty years is very visible as more and more people have moved to the area. The Centre is increasingly popular among residents and is a hub during holiday season with the population tripling in size at peak periods,” Said Mr O’Donnell.
Mr Kaiko agrees, remembering the time when the Centre was the only building in the area.
“Back when we first opened there was literally nothing surrounding the Centre – just land. Today it’s a busy residential area and has really developed, we have developed a loyal customer base that we are extremely proud of.” Added Mr Kaiko.
Several extensions to the building over the years, have enabled larger stores such as Target, Aldi and Woolworths to take up retail space, along with the addition of a food court and parking for over 1000 cars.
As Christmas shopping becomes top of the list over the coming weeks, the birthday celebrations are likely to give some welcome savings for those shopping at the Centre in search of gifts this season.
