It seems to me that whiting know exactly when it's school holidays. Each year, around this time, beautiful snowy white whiting move along beaches from Stockton to Fingal snuffling through the sand searching for worms and pipis. Inside the port the summer whiting are arriving in excellent numbers just in time for Christmas. Whiting are the family fish that everyone can catch in the middle of the day on the sand where it is safe. Worms are by far the best bait set on a No 4  hook and tossed off all the beaches from Shoal Bay right around to Jimmies Beach. Whiting are prized for their easy preparation and excellent eating. Flour, egg and breadcrumb dropped into a pan of Popeye's girlfriend and served with a squeeze of lemon. Magnificent.
