The high performance two-person dinghies were last in Port Stephens for the state titles in March.
Eighty of the yachts have this time been entered.
Ten 10 boats will come all the way from Western Australia for a tilt at the title.
“It’s going to be great to watch with some thoroughly competitive racing,” Port Stephens Sailing and Aquatic Club president Dennis Hume said.
“In terms of one design racing this is up there and they’ll be racing on an excellent waterway well regarded among sailors.”
The Tasars will take to the water on Friday for practice.
Five days have been set down for the regatta, including practice and a lay day, with three days of action-packed racing expected.
Port Stephens Sailing and Aquatic Club will assist with various course vessels while Port Stephens Yacht Club will put forward the bulk of the race officials.
Each race around the triangular courses is designed to test competitors over an hour-long period of about 0.8 nautical miles.
Designed to make the most of afternoon breezes, spectators can expect a good show. Salamander Shores jetty is tipped to be one of the better vantage points.
“I’d encourage people to get out for a look and maybe try it for themselves,” Mr Hume said.
