Work at three playgrounds in the Port Stephens area have recently been completed, with sail shades being installed in Raymond Terrace, Lemon Tree Passage and Fern Bay.
The playgrounds at Henderson Park at Lemon Tree Passage and Boomerang Park, Raymond Terrace, cost approximately $35,000 each to upgrade, according to a Port Stephens Council spokesperson.
Fern Bay Reserve also received two new shade sails, at the cost of approximately $60,000.
“The shades were installed in order to make the playgrounds available for use for longer periods throughout the day and to increase sun safety for users,” said Brock Lamont, Community and Recreation Coordinator at Port Stephens Council.
Fern Bay Reserve is also set to be home to a new hall by the end of the year, according to the council spokesman.
A development application will submitted before the council by March.
