“We had to keep looking at it and asking ourselves ‘Is it real? Is it really real?’,” the winner, who wished to remain anonymous said.
“We were sitting in the lounge room and I saw [my husband] staring at it and then he took his glasses off, put them back on, turned the ticket over, turned it back again and said to me, ‘I think you better take a look at this’.”
Make no mistake, they had scratched one of two top prizes of $25,000 on a $2 Instant Scratch-Its ticket.
“He reckons the look on my face was just priceless when I realised I’d won $25,000 - my mouth just dropped open and then I started screaming,” she said.
Even better, they’d won it off a bonus ticket.
“I was a bit down so I was just wandering around the [Terrace Plaza] shops and I thought I’d go collect the $2 free ticket prize I’d won on a scratchie,” she said.
“So I took it home and my husband actually scratched it.
“We’re battlers and we’ll be putting it towards a house deposit, so you wouldn’t believe how much this is going to help us.”
Terrace Plaza Newsagency owner Nicole Smith was delighted to have made her customer’s day.
“What a wonderful surprise to have uncovered the top prize of $25,000, particularly considering it was scratched on a free ticket prize,” Mrs Smith said.
“We’re delighted for our winning customers and wish them all the best with their prize!”
It’s not the first top prize for customers of Terrace Plaza Newsagency, in June 2015 they sold a Saturday Lotto ticket that won a division one prize worth more than $722,000. In 2016 they sold another worth $200,000.
