The donkey sanctuary, located outside Clarence Town, will be open and celebrating Easter with a picnic day on Saturday, April 15.
Leanne Atkins, assistant sanctuary manager, encouraged people to join them for a “picnic in the paddock with our lovable donkeys”.
Sanctuary staff and volunteers will run an Easter egg hunt, a hat competition and have plenty of hot cross buns on offer.
Open days at the sanctuary’s Pinebrush Farm in Glen William give the public a glimpse into the tireless work staff and volunteers put into providing a good home to surrendered and saved donkeys.
The public can have a look around the immaculately maintained farm, including the intensive care shed, listen to stories about the donkeys, what goes into keeping the animals healthy and why volunteers are vital to the organisation.
Picnic day attendees meet the sanctuary’s donkeys and hear the interesting background on how donkeys have helped mankind for thousands of years.
Ms Atkins said there were plenty of opportunities for picnic attendees to get a ‘selfie’ with the donkeys.
Entry for those who pack their own picnic lunch costs $15 per person.
Tickets inclusive of lunch provided by the sanctuary cost $30 per person.
Lunch includes a veggie burger and apple pie.
Bookings to attend the day is a must, and can be done through the sanctuary website.
The address to the sanctuary, which is withheld to protect the animals, will be sent to attendees once they book tickets.
Gates open at 10am.
Phone 4996 5596 or visit donkeyrescue.org.au to book.
