Wood chips flew fast and furious from logs hacked up by professional axemen at a community event hosted by Karuah Motor Yacht Club recently.

Representatives from the Central Coast Axemen’s Association joined yacht club and community members in Karuah on Saturday, April 8.
The association’s Ken Murrell, from Swan Bay, and Ray Tolcher, from Seaham, demonstrated woodchopping to about 80 people who turned out to the event.
Mr Murrell also answered questions about the art of woodchopping.
“This was a first of us,” yacht club member Deanne Baker said.
“They [association] wanted to do a demonstration for us.
“They also gave us a lot of information about woodchopping.”
Additionally, $450 was raised for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter from the event.
Mr Murrell is a regular to the Karuah Oyster and Timber Festival, where woodchopping is a major attraction.
The festival, and Mr Murrell, returns in 2017 on October 21.
The yacht club runs a junior fishing competition as part of the festival.
One of its other popular events is the thong throwing competition, held annually since the club’s inception in 2004, held on the first Sunday in September.
After the woodchopping and Q&A session, guests to the event were treated to musical entertainment by PJ and STIX.
The woodchips were collected and used for a camp fire.
