The seven month old female dog was found wandering in Karuah and taken to Port Stephens Animal Refuge.
Mary Hickie, owner of the Williamtown refuge, said the dog appears to have been neglected.
“She’s a real sedate lady,” Ms Hickie said. “She doesn’t seem to be an escape artist at all.
“She’s very soft natured, especially for a youngster.
“Loves affection. She’s quite happy just to be with you.”
Ms Hickie is unsure what breed the dog is.
She is medium in size, has a short hair coat and is mostly red in colour with some black markings.
The dog has no name. She was dropped off at the pound by rangers with no identification.
Ms Hickie said the dog does not appear to have received any training, but she was good at listening to commands.
She would need some minor training, especially on a lead.
The dog will cost $285 to adopt from the refuge.
The fee covers the cost of vaccinations, desexing, microchipping and a lifetime registration.
For more information phone the refuge on 4965 0100.
