After winning the GE Women’s Competition in 2016, the Marlins have continued its winning streak and are yet to drop a game this season.

In round three of the 2017 GE Women’s Competition, played at Dick Burwell Oval on April 22, the Marlins disposed of premiership rivals Gosford by 37 points.

The final score was 8.5 (53) to Gosford 2.4 (16).

Eliza Smyth and Jessica Phillips each kicked two goals for the Marlins.

Goals also came from Jemma Astley, Kaitlyn Douglass, Lisa Steane, and Philippa Smyth.

The Marlins senior players shone on Saturday, being best served by reigning league best and fairest Lisa Steane, her very capable sidekick Sophie Balcombe, centre half-back Kate Holland, Kaitlyn Douglass, ruck Pippa Smyth and Phillips.

It was a different story for the Nelson Bay Marlins premier men’s team who had a second consecutive loss in the Hunter Haval Black Diamond Cup competition on Saturday.

The Marlins men went down to league leaders Terrigal Avoca on the Central Coast, 16.16 (112) to 3.5 (23).

After recording their first ever win over Terrigal Avoca the last time the teams met on the Central Coast, the Marlins entered the match full of confidence.

This confidence, however, did not translate into a winning performance.

The Marlins were restricted to just one goal in the first three quarters as the Panthers completely controlled proceedings.

Two late goals to Nelson Bay meant that Terrigal Avoca ran out 89-points to win the match.

Mathew Dews kicked two goals and Luke Price one.

In reserve grade, the Marlins were made to pay for a dormant first half, in which they only managed one goal to the Panthers’ 8.3.

Nelson Bay managed three goals in the second half but the damage had been done.

Terrigal Avoca ran out 68-point winners, 15.11 (101) to Nelson Bay 4.9 (33).

Nathan Stewart kicked two goals for the Marlins, supported by Matthew White and Brendan Jones, who managed one goal each.

Nelson Bay host Killarney Vale in all three grades at Dick Burwell Oval on Saturday, April 29.

The Marlins will once again be hosting its Pink Sports Day, this year on May 13.

It has become a Mothers Day tradition for the club to host a day where the club turns pink, including players, to raise money for Breast Cancer Network Australia.

The club will run a raffle on the day and have a cake stall with a range of pink baked goods.
