The six-day tournament, starting from May 21, will be held at Raymond Terrace Bowling Club.
While 95 per cent of competitors taking part in the championship are from outside the area, there are some bowlers from Port Stephens and surrounds in the mix.
Cheryl Benbow, from Allworth, and Bryce Williams, from Lemon Tree Passage, will represent the region in the lawn bowls championship.
Janelle Gardner, Port Stephens Council’s tourism and events coordinator, said the week-long event is expected to inject $200,000 into the economy.
But more importantly, the event will create opportunities for not just accessible tourism but “inclusive tourism experiences across the region” she said.
“[The] council is currently in the process of updating its Disability Inclusion Action Plan, and in line with that, events like the bowls championship improve the quality of experiences available in our region for people living with a disability,” she said.
The tournament includes men’s single, women’s singles, men’s B5/6 pairs, men’s B7/8 pairs, women’s pairs and open triples events.
