The weather prediction for “doom and gloom” put a dampener on the vehicle turnout for the 2017 Tilligerry Motorama, but it did nothing to stop the public from showing up.

While the Tilligerry Auto Club did not see the 600 vehicles it was anticipating for this year’s motorama, instead getting 417 bikes and cars, organisers did enjoy sunshine and more spectators through the gates.
“The number of show cars was down by 20 per cent this year,” Tilligerry Auto Club president Ian Jones said.
“The weatherman’s way out of the park prediction of doom and gloom did scare some people away.
“Spectator numbers were up about 10 per cent so the day on the whole was a success.”
About 4000 people turned out to Tilligerry RSL Sports Club to see the cars, bikes and trikes on display.
More than $11,000 was raised from this year’s motorama, held on May 21, for the Paediatric Oncology Unit at the John Hunter Children's Hospital.
Port Stephens MP Kate Washington recognised the auto club during her speech to NSW Parliament on May 24.
Ms Washington recognised the many festival and events – plus organisations and people that were part of them – held in Port Stephens across the May 20-21 weekend including the Step Back into King Street Heritage Festival and Tilligerry Motorama.
“Over the years, the club has raised more than $100,000 for local organisations,” Ms Washington said.
“May the festivities continue.”
There were 388 cars on show during the 2017 motorama, including 80 owned by members of the Tilligerry Auto Club, plus 29 bikes and trikes – a total of 417 vehicles.
While club members can show their cars in the motorama, they are not eligible to win trophies in the awards.
The perpetual Don Barrett Trophy winner for best vehicle on show went to a green HT Holden Station Wagon owned by Phil Denton.
The people’s choice trophy winner went to a grey VK Holden Commodore.
