Not many country music festivals have coastal appeal.
But this year’s Bluewater festival will have added beauty with 2017 Mrs Galaxy Australia, Emilie Hardes, named as its ambassador.
Mrs Hardes, from Tanilba Bay, said she was “honoured” to be helping with this year’s country music festival, which is being held in more than 30 venues across the Tomaree Peninsula on the June long weekend.
“I feel blessed to have been given this opportunity, and to be able to promote my community,” Mrs Hardes said.
“I love talking and meeting with new people, and spreading the word about the dynamic part of the world we live in.”
The mother to two small children, and brand new to pageantry, was crowned Mrs Galaxy Australia at the national final in April.
As part of the pageant, Mrs Hardes is expected to make public appearances in her sash and crown.
However, enjoying the experience and opportunities she has been given so far, she has already eclipsed the minimum number she was required to do.
The ambassador title is her biggest role yet.
Mrs Hardes will help to launch the festival on Wednesday, June 7, attend Beccy Cole’s headline concert and join punters on one of the Country Cruises on offer.
Peter Clough, an organiser of the country music festival, said after meeting with the bubbly Mrs Hardes, they knew should would make a great ambassador for the event.
About 130 artists will perform across the long weekend, between Friday, June 9 and Monday, June 12.
In addition to music performances, there will be two cruises with a country music singer and bush poets and a number of line dancing and boot scooting events across the weekend.
While many performances are free to see, there are a number of ticketed events including Friday’s Patsy Cline tribute at Nelson Bay Diggers and Amber Lawrence and Aleyce Simmonds’ show at Ramada Resort.
Saturday’s Brothers3 show at Broughtons at the Bay, plus Sunday’s Johnny Cash tribute at Nelson Bay Bowling Club and Beccy Cole concert at Soldiers Point Bowling Club are ticketed events.
