“The Lakeside skate park will be user-friendly, with components for all skill levels, whilst still remaining interesting for more experienced riders,” Port Stephens Council community and recreation coordinator Brock Lamont said.
“While the Boomerang Park skate park will cater for all abilities, it has been designed to offer more interest and difficulty to advanced riders.”
The Lakeside facility will be located on Benjamin Lee Drive at Lakeside No. 2 Reserve, adjacent to the new playground.
The new Lakeside skate park like the playground was funded through successful grant applications under the Social Housing Community Improvement Fund and by Port Stephens Council.
The new skate park at Boomerang Park will be located near Irrawang Street, on the northern side of the playground and is a fully council funded project.
“The two skate parks will be constructed at the same time by the same specialised external contractor, which has enabled council to achieve economies of scale and to provide a better end product for the same amount of money,” Mr Lamont said.
Once the new skate park at Boomerang has been constructed, the existing skate park near the Marketplace Shopping Centre will be removed.
Council will seek to reuse components where possible to add to other skate parks across Port Stephens.
