In total there’s $300,000 on offer for community groups to deliver infrastructure projects in Port Stephens.
“This grant funding is an opportunity for community groups to receive an injection of funds to help tackle their wishlist,” Port Stephens MP Kate Washington said.
“Groups who have received this funding in the past have done a terrific job, improving infrastructure for the benefit of our community.”
Groups which have received grant funding in previous years include charities, sporting clubs, social clubs and environmental groups. Projects must be focused on building or repairing community infrastructure, or purchasing large equipment.
The rescue and preservation group Port Stephens Koalas was a major recipient in last year’s announcements, with $123,965 to prepare plans for a koala hospital.
Hunter River High School P&C meanwhile received $49,527 for its Marrunggang Ganyi Baa outdoor garden and gym.
Tomaree State Emergency Service (SES) received $22,000 to cover an outdoor storage and training area.
PCYC Port Stephens benefited from emergency exit upgrades
worth $14,763, while Medowie and District Little Athletics received $15,000 to provide a level spectator area for oval events.
Tanilba Bay Parks, Reserves and Hall Committee were successful applicatants in a $10,000 grant for Tanilba Bay foreshore pathway.
Raymond Terrace Community Preschool also received $10,000 to enhance its outdoor learning space.
Tilligerry Mens Shed was presented $8000 to perform workshop extensions.
Nelson Head Lighthouse and Rescue Station Reserve Trust received $5000 to upgrade disability access.
Karuah Public School P&C accepted $4000 to uprgrade its library.
“I encourage all eligible local groups to apply for this grant funding,” Ms Washington said.
“If your group has tried in the past and haven't been successful, I urge you to try again.”
Applications for funding opened June 26 and will close on Wednesday August 9. Successful recipients will be announced in December.
Grant applications must have a minimum value of $2500 to be eligible for funding under the program.
