Kim Oakhill has been recognised by the AusMumpreneur Network for her business, Helpful Love, which she runs while raising two children, Conway, 4, and Dusty, 2.
“I want to be a role model for my children to know that they can do absolutely anything they set their mind to, and that they have the power within themselves to change the world and make it a better place,” Ms Oakhill said about juggling motherhood with running a business.
Helpful Love is an online hub of services, specialised and niche products that can purchased for someone going through a hard time as an alternative to flowers.
The business went national in January.
It currently services Newcastle, Port Stephens, Central Coast, Port Macquarie, Maitland, Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne and Brisbane.
The AusMumpreneur Awards celebrate and recognise Australian mothers that are achieving outstanding success in areas such as business excellence, product development, customer service and digital innovation.
The awards are designed to recognise the growing number of women who successfully balance motherhood and business in a way that suits their life and family.
Ms Oakhill is nominated in two sections of the awards.
She has been nominated by the panel in the Making a Difference Award (which recognises individuals who are making a difference to people’s lives, the environment or the world through their business or their non-profit).
Additionally, she has been nominated for the Making a Difference Awards in the people’s choice section.
Ms Oakhill said it can be challenging to be a successful businesswoman whilst raising a family, but said it had been rewarding.
“I meet so many aspiring entrepreneurs with ideas who are too fearful to start as they want their product to be perfect,” she said.
“Don’t wait for the perfect moment to launch.”
The winners of the 2017 AusMumpreneur Awards will be announced at a dinner in Sydney on August 25.
