Education Week runs from Monday, July 31 to Friday, August 4.
The week highlights the achievements of public education and schools, putting the spotlight on students, educators and the communities that support them.
Medowie Public School has a busy schedule for Education Week. On Tuesday, August 1, the school’s junior and senior choir, stage two and three dance groups plus the band will perform at MarketPlace Raymond Terrace between 11am and 1pm.
MarketPlace will once again host Irrawang, Medowie, Raymond Terrace, Wirreanda and Grahamstown public schools plus Irrawang and Hunter River high schools throughout Education Week, giving students a stage to showcase their talents to the community.
The same Medowie performers will also take part in Showcase at Irrawang High School.
“The MarketPlace and Showcase performances are a wonderful opportunity for students to display their talents and hard work to their community,” Medowie Public School teacher Glen Haug said.
“Along with being a lot of fun, performing to an audience allows children to develop self-confidence, find new interests and connect with other students with similar interests.”
Medowie will have a special assembly on Friday, August 4 where the “love of learning” awards will be presented.
The awards are presented to students who have a passion for education, regardless of their academic ability.
There will also be musical performances on the day.
Irrawang public students will be at MarketPlace between 11am-1pm on July 31; the next day it’s Medowie.
On Wednesday (9.30am-11.30am) it will be Raymond Terrace public then Hunter River High (12.30pm-2pm).
Thursday is Wirreanda public (11am-1pm) and rounding out the week on Friday will be Irrawang high (9.30am-11am) and Grahamstown public (11am-1pm).
Showcase will be held at Irrawang High School on August 1 and 2.
It is a showcase of student’s talents in all areas of the performing arts.
Students perform to a large audience and are provided with an opportunity to perform with professional lighting and sound.
Showcase was developed as part of the school’s transition program to allow high school and primary school students to work together in a professional performing arts environment.
Grahamstown, Wirranda public schools and Irrawang high will perform in Showcase on August 1 while Medowie, Irrawang public and Irrawang high students will perform on August 2.
Tickets, available from Irrawang high, cost $10 per adult, $5 for students or pensioners. Families are $25.
