It was pouring down rain and when she hit the ball, the club flew out of her hand and into a tree.
But the professional golfer does not expect that to happen when she returns to the Bay course in August for the Men of League Foundation’s golf day.
“I played in Nelson Bay a very long time ago; I was a junior the last time I was there,” Mrs Garrett said.
“I remember bits and pieces about the course. I remember it was absolutely pouring when I was there last.
“It’s a nice part of the world. I’m looking forward to playing.”
Mrs Garrett, from the Central Coast, has played golf professionally since 2005.
In 2007 she collected back to back Ladies European Tour titles at the Tenerife Ladies Open and the Open de Espana Femenino.
She spent 11 years on the European circuit.
These days, Mrs Garrett, who is on maternity leave, has little time to dedicate six to eight hours a day to golf, like she once did.
But she will pick up the clubs on Sunday, August 6 and take part in the Men of League Foundation’s annual golf day at Nelson Bay Golf Club.
Mrs Garrett is married to Men of League CEO Frank Barrett.
“He asked if I wanted to play, and I sad yes,” she said.
“It’s a great foundation, they do a great job in supporting the rugby league community.
“It’s going to be nice to get out and play again.
“Our son is at an age where we can get out more now, so I’ve been trying to get more golf in.”
