Conditions lately have been perfect to target the monsters from Fingal south to Birubi.
Corlette champ Terry Hunt latched onto a thumper that attacked his prawn jig off the rocks in Fishermans Bay.
I also heard that whopping tailor are smashing into pilchards early mornings and into the evenings at Fishermans Bay.
Toss out and hang on!
“Another week or two and they will be gone” I was told by an elderly luderick fisherman as he staggered off the Nelson Bay breakwall with his bag limit of fish. “Can’t complain, the luderick have been along the wall for
two months”.
I can not recall a better season on the breakwall. Cooked prawns appear to be the best bait. The “Love Seafood – Love Port Stephens” August festival is in full swing with the local oystermen on display last weekend.
All who attended agree that our local oysters can’t be beaten.
Disturbing news that a Queensland commercial trawler is “cleaning out” all fish and squid, north of Broughton Island, in the hunt for red spot whiting.
