The NSW Rural Fire Service has downgraded the threat level of a fire burning in bush near Anna Bay from watch and act to advice.
The RFS said the fire, burning along Fenninghams Island Road, has slowed due to the “swamp conditions” in the scrub.
No homes were reported to be under threat at 5pm.
EARLIER:
Rural Fire Service crews are at the scene of an Anna Bay fire burning parallel to Nelson Bay Road.
The fire, at watch and act level, is yet to place property at risk as it burns toward Port Stephens Drive.
“We suspect it could reach Port Stephens Drive within 30 minutes to an hour,” a spokesman from the NSW RFS Lower Hunter Fire Control Centre said.
“No properties are direct under threat at this time but the fire is 25 to 30 hectares in size and growing.”
Earlier on Friday fire fighters returned to the site of a hazard reduction in the bush fire asset protection zone behind Salamander Bay homes.
Listed at advice level only, crews from Salamander Bay Fire and Rescue NSW deployed a hose to mop up the remnants of Monday’s controlled burn.
While the smoke could be seen from Nelson Bay, fire fighters at the scene said there was no threat to homes.
The strong winds also fanned some embers Medowie Road, Medowie on Friday morning from earlier hazard reduction efforts.
