Fire and Rescue NSW firefighters were called to the inn on Monday morning on reports there was a fire in the kitchen.
The Raymond Terrace FRNSW unit responded.
On arrival, crews found smoke billowing from the building and immediately called for backup.
FRNSW crews from Tarro and East Maitland attended, as did police, NSW Ambulance paramedics and the Rural Fire Brigade from Thornton.
Firefighters entered the kitchen and extinguished the fire quickly.
No staff or guests were injured.
Firefighters used “positive pressure ventilation” – fans – to remove smoke that had built up in the restaurant, conference room and other parts of the building.
After ensuring the site was safe, firefighters handed the site back to management.
Photos from inside the Sir Francis Drake Inn have been removed at the request of Fire and Rescue NSW.
