The pair, members of Pacific Dunes, played in the OC Colley Cup at the beginning of August. Just two championships were up for grabs – in B and C-grade – and they were claimed by the Medowie men.
“Compared to other clubs around Newcastle, Pacific Dunes is a small club,” Leo, who won the C-grade championship, said. “To win both grades in the Cup is pretty significant.”
The OC Colley Cup is one of the association's most contested events on the district calendar. Each club in within the association is represented. More than 200 competitors play in the Cup.
Beasley, playing off a handicap of 12, was one of 115 competitors in the B-grade championship held at Waratah Golf Club on August 6.
Leo, playing off a handicap of 20, was up against 96 competitors in the C-grade championship held in Belmont on August 6.
By winning the championships, the pair have qualified for the association's B and C-grade pennants.
Starting from September 10, the pennants will see teams from each club in the district play seven rounds then finals.
“I'm looking forward to it,” Beasley said. “Pennants are a team event. Golf is typically an individual sport. To play in a team is great.”
