The Bay club hosted the grand finals at Tomaree Sports Complex.
The hard working committee, with assistance of players’ parents, put in a 10-hour day to make it a great day.
The under-11 and under-14 teams made it back-to-back titles. Under-11 defeated Maitland 26-10. Speed machine Xavier Stewart scored two tries and picked up the player of the match award.
Under-14 won 17-12 in a tight contest. Toby Fraser was man of the match. The under-16s victory was against all odds, playing a Wanderers team who were undefeated for two years.
It was a comprehensive victory for the Bay 38-14. Boston Kerapa was a worthy man of the match. Under-17s hung tough but were beaten by a well drilled Hamilton side.
The club will hold its presentation on Saturday for their 200 junior players at Strong Oval from 10am.
Randall Ingram, 10, has had a terrific week. He attended the NSW junior swimming championships and struck gold with a win in the 200 breast stroke final smashing his PB by seven seconds.
Randall also finished the trip with bronze medals in the 100m and 50m events rewarding the hard work he and coach Tom Davis put in.
To top off a big week in sport he was part of the premiership winning under-11 Bay rugby team that defeated Maitland 26-10.
Two Nelson Bay athletes are in Queensland on different missions this week.
Former state junior beach sprint champion Maya Stewart is in Caloundra on the Sunshine Coast representing NSW Combined Catholic Colleges at the Australian touch championships.
Talented groper full-back Jack Vincent will be playing for the NSW under-16 team at the Australian state rugby union championships at The Southport School on the Gold Coast.
Jack was a vital team player in the under-16 premiership winning Nelson Bay team that defeated the Wanderers 38-14 last Saturday.
