And even more are expected this year when the increasingly popular service is held on Monday, October 2.
All creatures big, small, scaly or fluffy will be welcomed by the church for the service which sees Reverend Kesh Govan bless animals.
“Animals are very important to people’s lives,” Reverend Govan said. “They become part of your family. We don’t celebrate that enough. This service is a way to say thank you for being there for us, for being happy to see us.”
While a majority of the animals brought in to be blessed are cats and dogs, there are still plenty of birds, rabbits and guinea pigs alongside some different types of pets such as snakes.
Last year, Reverend Govan blessed stick insects.
“People love it, they really get into it,” he said. “I think they like it because it’s something special for their pets.”
The service ill be held at the church in Gan Gan Road, Anna Bay (the old Peace Lutheran Church) from 4pm.
