A Port Stephens choir is inviting members of the community who are interested in learning to or improve their singing to join them at a workshop.

The SeaSide Singers will host a choral workshop at Soldiers Point Bowling Club on October 14.
The focus of the workshop, which will be run by the group’s music director Ellery Durrant, is developing singing skills.
“The workshop will focus on the complex rhythms and vocalisations that reflect the sights and sounds of the Australian landscape, which appear in the works of modern Australian composers,” Durrant said.
Members from three other choirs have said they will attend the workshop, too.
The cost to attend is $50 per person, which includes tuition, lunch and all day tea and coffee.
The cost is $35 per person if you take your own lunch.
To encourage more people to follow their passion to sing and join the group, the SeaSide Singers are offering 10 scholarships valued at $100 each.
The successful recipients will have their fee for the workshop covered.
The other $50 will cover a year’s membership with the SeaSide Singers.
“The scholarship is ideal for those older people who like singing but are hesitant about spending the money up front, in case they don’t like what is on offer, or are not sure whether joining a community choir is for them,” SeaSide Singers president Jeanette Antrum said.
“We also have special workshop rates for students and those under 30.
“This is a great opportunity to taste and see if choral singing is for you.”

The workshop will be held in the Seascapes Room at Soldiers Point Bowling Club from 9.30am to 5pm.
At the end of the workshop, about 4pm, attendees will put theory into practice and perform a short public concert.

The SeaSide Singers are a not-for-profit community choir.
Members of the choir range in ages from mid-thirties to late seventies.
The group meets at the Salamander Bay community centre every Tuesday from 7pm to 9pm.
